What we do to a dining chair
- Seat pads. Most dining chairs have a drop-in or screwed-on seat. We take it off, strip the old fabric, replace flat foam, and re-cover it.
- Padded backs. Upholstered backs get the same treatment, matched to the seat.
- Wood. If the legs and frame look tired next to the new fabric, ask about refinishing. The sideboard in the slider above was refinished alongside the chair that goes with it.
Choosing fabric for chairs that get used every day
Chairs at a dining table get more spills than a couch. Think about that before you fall for a pale velvet. Marilyn Rukande chose Pluto velvet and loved it, so velvet can work. For a family table, a leather-look or a tight weave in a mid tone forgives a lot more. We bring samples to your house so you can hold them against your table and your floor. Is it cheaper to re-cover dining chairs than to buy new ones?

Can you do the chairs and the couch at the same time?
