Some pieces in your Pretoria home can’t be bought again. A settee from your grandparents’ front room, or couches handed down from your mother. When the fabric gives up on a piece like that, you want it back looking right, and you worry that whoever touches it will ruin it.

Your price comes from your photos

You don’t wait for a visit to get a price. WhatsApp photos of the piece and tell us what’s wrong, and Kwanele quotes you from those. We first see your settee in person on collection day, when we bring our fabric and leather samples to your home in Pretoria and you choose. After that:

• we collect it and strip the old upholstery at our workshop on Vundla Street in Jabavu, Soweto
• we fix loose joints before anything is covered, and if the old fabric was hiding an earlier repair or a cracked rail, we show you a photo before we touch it
• we re-cover it, adding buttoning or piping where the piece calls for it
• we bring it back and set it where it stood

Your piece, your brief

Felencia Clark gave us her own instructions and wrote: “Told them how I wanted my couch and I am highly impressed”. Tell us yours. A plain velvet lets the carved wood lead. A bold colour, like the turquoise on the settee in the before-and-after above, turns an old piece into the loudest thing in your lounge. A floral print leans into the period look.
